The IWGSC is leading the effort to develop a reference sequence of the large, complex (hexaploid), bread wheat genome. This year's workshop will include a presentation of first high quality, annotated reference genome of bread wheat, IWGSC RefSeq. The 21 psuedomolecules include a significant number of anchored markers providing a direct link between reference and important agronomic traits. With RefSeq available to scientists over the past 18 months, significant advances have been made. The workshop will include talks that highlight some of these. We will also hear a talk that describes the worldwide phylogeography and history of genetic diversity of wheat, a precursor work to developing a pan-genome. As usual, the workshop also will include a talk by an IWGSC Early Career Award recipient. This is given to a young scientist nominated by anyone in the wheat community and selected by the IWGSC leadership as recognition of outstanding achievement.
The workshop focused on the annotation and curation of the hexaploid bread wheat reference genome sequence.
No regular business meeting this year but a celebration of the IWGSC RefSeq project.
The IWGSC presented two posters at the Plant and Animal Genome XXVI Conference (13-17 January 2018 - San Diego, CA, USA)
The IWGSC organized two workshops and celebrated the reference sequence project at the 2018 PAG Conference in San Diego.
